RIP SGT Aaron Wittman

A tremendous loss for the 3-69 AR BN and The Citadel family. My son is in the same battalion.

"We're the men from Romeo"

Army Sgt. Aaron X. Wittman, ’07, was killed Jan. 10 in Khogyani District, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan when his unit was attacked by small arms fire while on mounted patrol. He was assigned to the 3^rd Battalion, 69^th Armor Regiment, 1^st Brigade Combat Team, 3^rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga.

“I’ll never forget Aaron’s humor and optimism, even in the worst of situations,” said Wesley Walker, ’06.

Wittman, 28, was the first U.S. casualty of 2013. A former member of Lima Company, Wittman is the 18^th alumnus to be killed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Wittman was on his second combat deployment and had previously been awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
